Northern Quarter: Our Neighbourhood

Quirky? Vibrant? Interesting?

No matter which word springs to mind first when you’re thinking of the Northern Quarter, there’s no denying it’s a cherished part of Manchester; a city centre district sitting in-between Ancoats and Piccadilly and a centre of alternative and bohemian culture.

There really are few, if any, better places to rent an apartment in Manchester. And we’ll give you a little introduction as to why…

A magnetic community

From Here, A Revolution Emerged

The Northern Quarter is an area that once housed the engine of the world’s cotton and textile industry; born out of the Industrial Revolution and changing the world forever.

Its moniker, however, was born in the 1990s as musicians, artists and like-minded city dwellers came together to form a community that has since grown. Now it’s a popular and vibrant district that we know today; a patchwork of bars, cafes and retailers – from indie record stores to the multi-storey, world-famous bazaar that is Affleck’s Palace.

Being the city’s creative hub, the Northern Quarter is home to fashion designers, artists, tech innovators and lifestyle brands.

Art is a big part of what the NQ has to offer. OuthouseMCR, for example, uses the street level remnants of a former public convenience to showcase street or graffiti art. And, all the while, you’ll find murals adorning walls throughout the NQ. It’s a living, urban canvas.

Get yourself connected

There is one cool thing about our apartments in Manchester city centre that isn’t onsite – and that’s our proximity from the top of Port Street to transport hubs, leisure destinations and the best independent bars, eateries, bakeries and retailers in the city. You won’t have to venture too far for the best pizza in town either – it’s in Ancoats, if you’re wondering…

Here at The Astley, you’ll be in a brilliant place.

A little further afield, but not too far to walk:

  • Piccadilly Station (6 mins)
  • Shudehill Interchange (8 mins)
  • Victoria Station (13 mins)
  • Arndale Shopping Centre (10 mins)
  • Selfridges/Harvey Nicks (12 mins)
  • Spinningfields (20 mins)
